Sr Staff Software – Sunnyvale

A new generation of converged handheld devices is emerging with 3G voice and data, digital camera, high-performance graphics, 720p video recording and playback, and built-in image processing. The Broadcom family of Mobile Multimedia Processors has been designed to address this convergence with high-performance programmable multimedia capability at minumum power consumption. Support for high definition video recording, 720p playback over HDMI, and console-quality 3D graphics are all now possible in cell phones and personal media players. Broadcom is making this vision a reality.In this role you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and testing modules of MultiMedia processing software. The candidate will be responsible for the following:- Design and develop modules of Multimedia Processing Software, in particular those areas related to multimedia- Develop standards-based approaches to software frameworks for personal media player and cellphone markets- Create reference software to demonstrate the multimedia capabilities of Broadcom processors- Document the design and present to development team and customers- Work with customer as needed to integrate their existing code base with our solution - Potential involvement with open-source projects Requirements: Typically requires a BS degree and 6 years of experience, an MS degree and 3 years of experience, or a PhD.* 5 years of experience, MS degree strongly preferred* Expert in programming in C/C++* Good familiarity with software engineering best practices and development process* Strong experience with Linux application programming and Linux middleware components, particularly for embedded devices* Experience developing multimedia applications with OpenMAX IL is required* Experience developing GStreamer-based multimedia applications for Linux is a very strong plus* Experience with application development using GTK is a plus* Knowledge of Khronos APIs such as OpenKODE, OpenSL or OpenVG is a plus* Strong understanding of video/audio codec fundamentals is a plus
